Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate Expands to Steamboat Springs

Longtime Local Broker Doug Labor to Lead New Office on Main Street

July 23, 2024 – Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate (SSF), the leading independent brokerage firm in Colorado and founding member of Forbes Global Properties, has been serving its communities, including the Front Range, Vail Valley, Summit County, and Roaring Fork Valley for over six decades. Today, the company proudly announced its expansion into Steamboat Springs. Earlier this year the company entered the Steamboat market with the launch of The Amble, an all-electric new development residential community of 42 residences developed by SSF’s sister company, East West Partners, who was the developer selected by Alterra Mountain Company to transform Steamboat Ski Resort’s base village. Now, SSF will be expanding into general brokerage services with a team led by longtime local broker Doug Labor.

“Expanding into Steamboat Springs is a natural step in the continued evolution of Slifer Smith & Frampton,” said Jason Cole, CEO of Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate. “At our core, we are a company focused on serving Colorado’s mountain resorts and Front Range communities. We see incredible potential in Steamboat Springs and the future of the Yampa Valley.”

Doug Labor, who will lead the Steamboat Springs Slifer team, has been a broker for more than 40 years. He started his real estate career in Summit County in 1982, working in project sales. He then moved to executive-level positions at Copper Mountain (Colo.), Hidden Valley Resort (Penn.), Whitefish Mountain (Mont.), and Steamboat Springs (Colo.). In 2000, he left Steamboat Resort, opened his own office in Steamboat Springs, and operated it for 15 years before merging with Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty, where he was General Manager until he decided to partner with SSF. He has been twice voted ‘Realtor of the Year’ by his peers, was voted ‘Best of the Boat Broker’ by the Steamboat community on two occasions, and has served two terms as president of the Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors. He currently serves on the newly formed Altitude MLS Board of Directors and is on CAR’s Professional Standards committee.

“I’ve admired Slifer Smith & Frampton from afar since I first started in resort real estate more than 40 years ago,” said Doug Labor. “The in-depth knowledge that they have on Colorado mountain communities and how they embrace the communities that they become a part of is second to none.”

Labor has already begun growing his team at Slifer. He brings with him three brokers he has worked with in Steamboat Springs for several years – Brooke Crofts, Linda Cullen, and Courtney Wiedel. Two existing Slifer brokers are excitedly making the move from other markets, including Broby Leeds from Slifer Vail and Dorian Bailey from Slifer Cherry Creek. The Steamboat office will also include the two brokers for The Amble – Joe Cashen and Michael O’Donnell. With this move to Slifer Smith & Frampton, Labor’s office just off Main Street in downtown Steamboat Springs will be reflagged and be the main SSF office in Steamboat in addition to the existing on-site sales office at The Amble. Steamboat Springs will be an extension of Slifer’s Summit County market, with Chris Lankhorst serving as its market president and Labor serving as the Steamboat Branch Broker.

“We are incredibly excited to add Steamboat Springs to our Colorado network as it’s a community many of us at Slifer already know and love,” said Chris Lankhorst, Summit County Market President. “At Slifer, we pride ourselves on being hyper-local, but we also have a global reach, making us a competitive option for buyers and sellers in Colorado’s luxury real estate market. We think this will be a great asset in a market like Steamboat.”

“Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate is a founding member of Forbes Global Properties that has been instrumental in shaping our international network and advancing our commitment to client-centric service. We are proud to congratulate the firm on its continued growth and this exciting expansion. Steamboat Springs is a wonderful resort community with a unique offering of residential properties that is sure to resonate with our global audience,” said Michael Jalbert, CEO, Forbes Global Properties.

As the leading independent brokerage firm in Colorado, Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate (SSF) has been a pillar of the Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Keystone communities for nearly 60 years. The company was founded in 1962 by the late Rod Slifer, the first licensed broker in Vail. In 1994, Rod Slifer merged with Frampton Smith Real Estate and its founders, Mark Smith and Harry Frampton, forming the full-service real estate company of Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate. In 2004, the company expanded into Breckenridge and Keystone, and in 2019, it acquired the boutique luxury brokerage firm Palladium Properties, allowing for expansion into Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. Most recently, SSF expanded its reach to the Denver metro area with the acquisition of Colorado Landmark Realtors in 2022. In addition, SSF’s Development Sales division has over 30 years of experience and has conceived, marketed, and sold more than 130 large projects across Denver, Summit County, Vail, Aspen, and throughout Colorado. SSF’s network in Colorado now includes 29 offices, 320+ brokers, and 100+ team members supporting them.

“The Slifer brand is perfect for Steamboat,” said Labor. “Steamboat has long maintained its identity as a true Colorado resort, and having a true Colorado real estate company here is the perfect match.”
